Touchdown in Ushuaia

Finally touched down around 20:15 this evening. The plane was ducking a diving over a snow-capped mountain range as dusk turned to dark and the city lights of Ushuaia came into view. It’s a city of moderate size; a population of 58,000 I’m told. We were greeted by the 2041 crew and promptly ushered into minibuses to be driven to the hotel. Catching glimpses of the city as we drove it appears a bizarre mix of brick-timber and corrugated steel bungalows, a DIY blend of wild west meets alpine log cabin. After a detailed safety briefing in the hotel lobby, I dropped my bags in my room and made for dinner. A very nice 3-course meal, followed by a glass of wine at the bar. Chatted to some of the other guys that arrived earlier today, a large contingent from the US, and the BP staff who have been here a day preparing. I’m off to bed now, a well deserved rest ready for tomorrow. Breakfast begins at 6:45, and I’m anticipating a busy day.
